About Us

Alex Emanuel - Alex is a pro AEA/SAG/AFTRA stage, film and TV actor, indie rock singer/songwriter and guitarist, and fledgling producer. He wears many hats (perhaps dashingly), but tries not to sweat ‘em all at once. As an actor, he's appreared in numerous films, plays (incl. a prolonged stint at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago) and TV shows (he's been on Law and Order, Hack, Sex and the City and other things). This past year he had leads in 2 indie features; Therepy and Together , and he's presently in pre-production on another. He also recently completed the pilot for a hilarious Mockumentary TV series entitled The Battle of the Band (his band Permission appears on the soundtrack as well). As for producing, Alex's company Starna Productions (email: starna@gmail.com ) has put on a few plays, readings and rock events here and there, and they're presently garnering interest for two very cool feature screenplays they hope to have made in the coming year. Alex is also no stranger to the short film genre, having acted in hundreds of ‘em, playing everything from a spurned drug smuggler, punch drunk wanderer and future government assassin, to a seething religious nut, hipper than thou ping pong champ and gun-toting mental patient (he swears these roles are not auto-biographical….yet), and he used to own a pair of Umbro gym shorts that would be pretty tiny by todays standards. Patrick Horner - Stealing a line from Steve Dallas, Patrick is the brains behind the spandex, aka, the Executive Director of the New York Short-Short Film Festival. When he's not herding the cats with NYSSFF, he works on various short films around New York City. His super-big project is American Healthcare , the forthcoming documentary on the healthcare system in America, where he serves as producer and lead phone-wrangler. He has a barely tamed peripatetic nature and has recently settled into New York (for good this time, he swears), after stints in DC, San Francisco, Seattle, and San Francisco again. Along the way, he has studied at Film Arts Foundation in San Fracisco and the Seattle Film Institute. Email him at info@nyssff.com and tell him that he should probably call his mother.

Philip Armand - We dare you to come up with something Philip can't do. He has, at various times, run his own companies, installed computer networks, troubleshot security cameras, engineered data closets, created award-winning cabinetry, and built gorgeous masonry projects. Oh, did we mention he is a documentarian as well? And a television producer? And an editor-for-hire? Somehow, Phil lives on a 37-hour a day schedule, storing the extra 13 hours in a pocket dimension hidden from the rest of us. Phil is the director of the award-winning The Art of Ambivalence , which chronicles the passions of outsider artist Mike Conner, and the radio-series Listen for Freedom , which tells the gripping stories of those who fled oppressive regimes to emigrate to America. Phil is also Executive Producer of Battle of the Band , his hilarious look at the winners of a high school talent contest, ten years later. He serves as Co-Executive Director of the NYSSFF. He is also Producer/Director of American Healthcare , through his production company, Unovis Productions. Visit him on the interwebs at PhilipArmand.com .

Ryan Uzilevsky - is a cinematographer, production designer, director, and Co-Founder of the successful independent film production company Radius 5 Films. His life is like a pinball deflecting off the impenetrable mysteries of the modern world while gaining points for each instance of contact. One day he believes these points will add up enough of a score to gain him access to the bonus round where the usage of three balls is permitted. Web Site Radius 5

Sarah Natochenny - Sarah is actually younger than she looks. She is a NY-based actor/improviser/model/writer/coffee drinker. On her free time, she enjoys chasing tornados in her Ferrari Red Dodge Dakota. Most recently, Sarah shot a print ad for HSBC , and wrote and acted for a pilot called Turn Left . Sarah studied improv for over 2 years at Upright Citizens Brigade, and is now in a musical/karaoke improv group of her own. She is currently writing a sketch show with another cool kid of UCB called McGhee and LaRue Present: Gentiles Against Coprophages . Partake if you will. Sarah is represented for both legit and commercial work, and she thanks her cats and her hamster Lady Coco Fornicator of the Land, whom she usually ignores. You can read her banter at www.myspace.com/someone_stole_it . See? Told you she was younger than she looks…..
